Before the first day, your child is matched with a current student at the same grade level — carefully chosen, not randomly assigned. Someone who knows how things work, where everything is, and what it felt like to be new.
Your child is greeted at the door by their class teacher and their AWS Buddy — people who already know their name and have been looking forward to meeting them.
There are no anonymous arrivals at AWS.
The first day is gentle and manageable. No pressure to perform. No expectation to have everything figured out. Just a warm introduction to their classroom, their classmates, and the spaces that will become familiar very quickly.
Every new student also spends dedicated time with their Success Coach on day one — a private conversation about who they are, what excites them, and what they might be a little nervous about. It is the beginning of one of the most important relationships your child will have here.
At the end of the day, you hear from us. How it went. What we noticed. What comes next.
The AWS Buddy stays close all week — lunch, between classes, the small moments of navigation that matter most when everything is still new.
The Success Coach and class teacher watch closely and respond proactively — not waiting for a problem to emerge, but actively looking for the moments that need attention.
At the end of the first week, your admissions welcome contact checks in personally. A real conversation. Not a form.
Every Friday, without exception, your child’s Success Coach calls every family in their advisory with something specific and warm about their child from the week.
Not a general update. Something noticed. Something that tells you the person calling has been paying close attention to your child all week long.
For new families, this call is the moment most often described as — this is when we knew we made the right choice.
The Weekly Student Report lands in your My AWS inbox every Friday. Assignment completion. Attendance. A personal pastoral note from the Success Coach. Areas of strength. Anything that needs attention.

At the start of every term, new and existing families gather for the New Family Welcome Evening — informal, no presentations, just people. The conversations that begin here tend to last well beyond the school year.
The AWS PTA is active, welcoming, and genuinely influential in school life. New families are encouraged to attend in their first term — not because they have to, but because it is the fastest way to feel like you truly belong.
Every new family is added immediately to the AWS Community Digital Hub — school news, community connection, and the practical wisdom of families who have navigated exactly what you are navigating now.

We expect it and plan for it. Your child’s teacher, Success Coach, and Buddy are all watching closely. You will hear from us before you need to reach out to us.
