Learning Experience

Every Day Has a Purpose. Every Falcon Has a Place.

Home Student Life Learning Experience
Life at AWS Goes Far Beyond the Classroom.

At American World School Chennai, what happens between — and beyond — formal lessons is not supplementary to the education. It is essential to it. The way we structure every single day of the school week, the partnerships we have built with world-class engineers and international organisations, the clubs we run, the studio we have equipped, and the real-world experiences we have created for our students — all of it is part of a deliberate, deeply considered design.

A design built around one belief: that the students who thrive in the world of tomorrow are not the ones who were best at sitting still and absorbing information. They are the ones who learned to build, to speak, to create, to lead, and to connect — from the very first year of school, every single week, without exception.

This is what the AWS Learning Experience looks like. And there is nothing else quite like it in Asia.

A Week at American World School Chennai

Each day carries its own theme, its own energy, and its own distinct contribution.

Academic Foundations
01
Monday – Tuesday

Academic Foundations

Where rigour meets purpose.

These are the days when students engage most intensively with their core curriculum — developing the subject knowledge, critical thinking, and skills-based understanding that form the intellectual foundation of everything else the week will bring. Even on our most academically focused days, students are engaging with real problems and producing evidence of their learning.

Innovation Day

Where science meets the sky.

Our partnership with Vayusathra brings professional engineers into the classroom — Science & Astronomy, Aeronautics, Drone Technology, Satellite Building, and Robotics. Afternoons move to the Maker Space & Innovation Hub, where students design and build with industry-standard Siemens software.

Xpress Day

Where every Falcon finds their voice.

The entire school shifts into one shared mode: public communication. Students at every grade level practise Stage Presence & Positioning, Voice & Tone, Body Language, and Etiquette & Professional Presence. Being able to stand up and communicate a brilliant idea is just as important as having one.

Entrepreneurship Day

Where every Falcon becomes a builder.

The weekly culmination. Students work on real startups, meet entrepreneurs from Chennai and around the world, visit businesses off-campus, and pitch their ideas. Supported by our partnership with the Peter Johns Foundation, UK for international mentorship.

Our Philosophy

Personalised Education — Because One Size Never Fits All.

Every Falcon arrives with a unique set of strengths, interests, and ambitions. From day one, every student works one-on-one with their dedicated Success Coach and University Counsellor to map out a learning journey that is genuinely theirs — setting personal growth goals, choosing courses and co-curricular activities that align with their passions, and building a plan for the life and career they actually want.

Behind the grade matters most.

Courses are designed around the skills and knowledge students need to thrive — in university, in careers, and in life.

Mastery, not memorisation.

Students learn how to think — built around transferable skills and deep understanding, not facts to recall for the next test.

Growth is 24/7.

Clubs, advisor conversations, and cross-country communities are as much part of the education as the subjects they study.

Evidence, not just description.

Students leave AWS with a portfolio of original work — not just a transcript.

Your pace, your path.

Students master key competencies in the order and at the pace that suits them — moving forward when they and their advisor agree they're ready.

Innovation & Impact Programme

Every AWS student completes our signature programme alongside the High School Diploma — choosing a UN SDG or their own startup idea, prototyping in the Maker Lab, mentored by faculty.

The Peter Johns Foundation

International mentorship and a global entrepreneurial network.

Friday's entrepreneurial energy does not stop at the school gate — and it does not stop at the borders of India. Through our proud partnership with the Peter Johns Foundation, UK, AWS students gain access to something very few schools anywhere in the world can offer.

International Mentorship

Connected with experienced mentors from the UK and beyond — professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators who have built real things. Structured, sustained mentorship relationships genuinely invested in each student's development.

A Network of Peers

Ambitious, entrepreneurially minded young people from across the world — peers who share the same curiosity, drive, and commitment to building something that matters.

Global Exposure

Events, programmes, and community initiatives that give our students exposure to the global entrepreneurial landscape — not just inspiring, but formative.

A Bridge to the Real World

AWS students arrive at graduation with a network already in place — spanning countries, industries, and generations of entrepreneurial experience.

AWS Students on the World Stage

What Entrepreneurship Day builds toward.

The energy of Friday Entrepreneurship Day is not contained within the school week. It builds — across weeks, terms, and years — into the readiness to represent AWS on a genuinely global stage.

A group of AWS Falcons travelled to Dubai to meet the CEO of Edmentum in recognition of achieving a world record on the Exact Path mastery journey. They joined the leadership team for a business dinner as honoured guests — before receiving a surprise VIP pass to the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa.

And in one of the proudest moments in AWS's history, our students were invited to the British Parliament in London to receive the Young Change Maker Award.

These are not aspirational stories. They are things our students have already done.

Learning Experience FAQs

Every day at AWS carries its own theme: Monday and Tuesday are Academic Foundations, Wednesday is Innovation Day with Vayusathra engineers and the Maker Space, Thursday is Xpress Day (public communication), and Friday is Entrepreneurship Day. No two days at AWS feel the same — entirely by design.

Every AWS student completes this signature programme alongside their High School Diploma. Students choose a UN Sustainable Development Goal or develop their own startup idea, prototype real solutions in our Maker Lab and Innovation Hub, and are mentored by faculty across the relevant disciplines.

Vayusathra is our Wednesday partner — a team of professional engineers and scientists who bring real aerospace and technology directly into AWS. Students work with them on Science & Astronomy, Aeronautics, Drone Technology, Satellite Building, and Robotics.

Every Thursday the entire school shifts into one shared mode: public communication. Students practise stage presence, voice, body language, and professional etiquette — so that by graduation, standing up in a room full of people and speaking with confidence is natural, not difficult.

A UK-based partnership that connects AWS students with international mentors, a global network of entrepreneurial peers, and exposure to the global startup landscape. Our students graduate with a network already in place — not one they have to build from scratch.

From day one, every student works one-on-one with their Success Coach and University Counsellor to map out a learning journey that is genuinely theirs — setting goals, choosing courses and activities that align with their passions, and progressing at the pace that suits them. Every Falcon leaves with a portfolio, not just a transcript.
