Student Life — K–12 Wellbeing
A Thriving Falcon Is a Learning Falcon.
At American World School Chennai, we do not treat student wellbeing as something separate from education — something to address when things go wrong or to celebrate on a dedicated awareness day. We treat it as the foundation on which everything else is built.
A student who feels safe, known, and genuinely supported is a student who can learn, create, take risks, build friendships, and grow into the person they are capable of becoming. A student who is struggling — emotionally, socially, or physically — cannot reach their potential no matter how strong the curriculum around them is.
That is why wellbeing at AWS is embedded into every aspect of school life, from Kindergarten through to Grade 12 — in the classroom, on the sports field, in counselling sessions, in the gym, in clubs, and in every conversation between a student and the adults who care for them.
Five dimensions of flourishing — embedded into every day, every grade.
Students learn at a pace that is right for them, with Success Coaches who monitor progress, celebrate growth, and intervene early when challenges arise. Skills-based, mastery-driven learning means no student is left behind and no student is unchallenged.
Our counselling team, school psychologists, and Success Coaches support students across the full spectrum of emotional and social development — from navigating friendships in Elementary to managing academic pressure in High School. Social-emotional learning is woven into the curriculum at every grade level.
From our Athletics programme and Falcons Gym to our outdoor spaces and off-campus experiences, AWS invests in the physical health of every student. We believe that a body that moves well supports a mind that thinks well.
Art, music, drama, dance, film, and the Content Creation Hub give every student a mode of expression that is entirely their own — because the ability to create something is one of the most powerful sources of personal confidence and joy.
The clubs students join, the trips they take, the friendships they build across countries and cultures — all of these contribute to a sense of belonging that is one of the most powerful protective factors in a young person's life.
From our youngest Kindergartener to our graduating High School seniors — every student at AWS can expect:
Wellbeing at AWS does not require a physical campus. Every online and hybrid Falcon has access to the same wellbeing support, the same counselling services, the same Success Coach relationships, and the same community connections as students in Chennai.
Distance changes nothing about our commitment to every student's flourishing.
Every Falcon Seen. Every Falcon Supported. Every Falcon Valued.
Student life at its fullest — the friendships, the performances, the competitions, the creative risks, the personal growth — is only possible when a student feels genuinely supported from the inside out. Our counselling programme exists to make sure that every Falcon, at every stage of their journey, has the professional care, the trusted relationships, and the personalised support they need to thrive in every dimension of school life.
Whether a student is navigating a friendship challenge in Elementary, finding their footing in a new environment, managing the pressures of High School, or simply needing someone to talk to — our counsellors are not just available. They are present, proactive, and genuinely invested in every student they support.
Wellbeing is not a separate programme at AWS — it is the foundation on which everything else is built. It is woven into the classroom, the sports field, counselling sessions, the Falcons Gym, clubs, and every conversation between a student and the adults who care for them, from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Academic Wellbeing, Emotional & Social Wellbeing, Physical Wellbeing, Creative Wellbeing, and Community Wellbeing — all supported across every grade level by Success Coaches, counsellors, teachers, and the wider AWS community.
