Student Startup Incubation

We Do Not Just Teach Students to Think Like Entrepreneurs. We Help Them Become One.

Most schools celebrate the idea. American World School Chennai celebrates what happens after the idea — the building, the testing, the pitching, the failing, the rebuilding, and the moment when something a student conceived inside a classroom becomes a real, functioning startup recognised by some of the world's leading universities.

From Kidspreneur to American World School Chennai, we have successfully incubated 45 student startups — in partnership with Anna University, IIT Madras Research Park, the University of Silicon Valley, and major universities across the world. Of those, 15 student startups have been incubated specifically through the University of Silicon Valley.

These are not projects. They are not school assignments. They are real companies, built by real students, backed by real institutions that saw real potential in what these young people created.

Our Incubation Partners

Three flagship institutions, plus a network of major universities worldwide — backing real student companies.

India · Chennai

Anna University

One of India's most respected technical universities — a flagship institution with deep roots in Tamil Nadu and a national reputation for academic excellence and innovation. AWS student startups gain access to South India's most established innovation ecosystem through this partnership.

India · Chennai

IIT Madras Research Park

India's first university research park. Home to 200+ companies, deep-tech startups, and research organisations at the frontier of science, engineering, and entrepreneurship. The venue that hosted the largest KIDx Asia event in history — 1,000+ audience, 15 student startups pitching.

USA · Silicon Valley

University of Silicon Valley

One of the most entrepreneurially focused institutions in the United States — at the epicentre of global technology innovation. 15 AWS student startups have been incubated here, gaining access to the networks, mentorship, and credibility of a US institution with direct Silicon Valley connections.

The Journey From Classroom to Incubation

Six deliberate stages — structured, supported, and walked by 45 students already.

1

The Idea

It begins in the classroom — in a Design Thinking session, Friday Entrepreneurship Day, Innovation and Impact Programme brief, or KIDx Asia entry. A student identifies a problem worth solving.

2

The Prototype

The idea moves into the Maker Space and Innovation Hub. Using Siemens software, fabrication tools, and Vayusathra engineering support, the concept becomes a physical or digital prototype.

3

The Pitch

Developed through Xpress Day communication training, Friday pitch practice, KIDx Asia entries, and Peter Jones Foundation UK mentor sessions — a pitch that arrives ready, not rehearsed.

4

The Application

AWS connects eligible student startups with appropriate incubation partners. Faculty and Success Coaches support students through articulating their idea, their market, and their vision.

5

Incubation

The student becomes a founder — supported by mentorship, resources, and the network of a world-class institution. AWS continues to support incubated students through their school journey.

6

Beyond

Incubated students graduate with something no other school in Asia offers: a real company, real institutional backing, a real track record, and a real network already invested in their success.

What Incubation Develops in Every Founder

The experience of taking a startup through incubation develops capabilities no classroom alone can provide.

Business Acumen

Understanding how a company is structured, generates revenue, manages costs, and scales — not as theory but as lived practical reality.

Investor Readiness

The ability to present a business compellingly to sophisticated audiences looking for a credible founder, defensible market, and realistic growth path.

Resilience and Adaptability

Building something real under genuine uncertainty, receiving hard feedback from experts, and finding the path forward anyway.

Professional Credibility

Institutional endorsement from Anna University, IIT Madras Research Park, or the University of Silicon Valley follows a student founder into every subsequent opportunity.

A Global Network

Mentors, fellow founders, investors, and institutional connections that serve a young entrepreneur for decades, not just for the programme.

Financial Literacy

The practical math of running a real company — budgets, unit economics, pricing, and growth modelling — learned by doing.
